I'm Calling About Going To Montana

from THE MOUTH (2014) by Prathloons

lyrics

and so it begins
the idle time of waking shy and wishing i hadn’t spoke of anything the day before
it was hard to build plains
of heartache of black bones of everything and for once in my life i had felt not a tick
sucking me dry in the most poetic way it could think of
i’ll regret this
much like i had the other inch of entries
reaching my bloody hangnailed arms in a cross above my head, pleading for forgiveness
you picked at my hair like it was grass you were keeping green through a season’s change
not like you’d forget what that looked like
i was walking and counting them on my hands
i’m struggling to keep us awake in a true trash fashion that i hadn’t believed would come full swing
and low and behold it did on your station wagon’s racing stripes
i shouted they were all fakes
i got hit on the head and thrown into the sea with waves that shook in the same ways your shoulders did on homecoming night
i remembered
i watched
and i smiled
my tear duct froze in the downtown sun as you passed by
while i shouted your name in simple slithered syllables
cold and disillusioned on the bottom of your feet
i’d travel far but only for a second look at where I live right now
my sights on the ground counting my steps in what ever direction i blindly intended on heading
i’d forget my intentions
talking to no one but mother and father through letters i’d forgotten to address anywhere
i’d wash my hollow body on the beaches from the backs of the postcards
observing a balloon released from someone’s hand
with a glass bottle tied below it crashing to the ground
Instead i’ll stay in here the darkness and ignore them without an excuse
we both jumped in two different directions
up
down
for only a minute at a time after getting tired, thirsty
the sun shrouded by clouds dried the rain from under the taut, coiled fabric
i felt it would rip at any second
shredded at the husk
